Following the reading, he'll open the floor for a Q&A with the audience. Books are available for personalization before and after the show. David Sedaris is one of America’s pre-eminent humor writers and one of today’s most observant writers. Beloved for his personal essays and short stories, David Sedaris is the author of the New York Times bestsellers "Barrel Fever," "Holidays on Ice," "Naked," "Me Talk Pretty One Day," "Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim," "When You Are Engulfed in Flames," "Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls," "Calypso," and "Happy-Go-Lucky." His new book of essays is "The Land and Its People. There are over 16 million copies of his books in print and they have been translated into 32 languages. He has been awarded the Terry Southern Prize for Humor, Thurber Prize for American Humor, Jonathan Swift International Literature Prize for Satire and Humor, Time 2001 Humorist of the Year Award, as well as the Medal for Spoken Language from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. In 2020 the New York Public Library voted "Me Talk Pretty One Day" one of the 125 most important books of the last 125 years. In 2025 he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Literature degree by the University of Chichester. Event Details Doors open at 5:15 p.m. with live music, and the show begins at 6:00 p.m. This event will include a reading by Sedaris, Q&A session, and an author signing immediately following in the lobby. Please note the earlier start time to accommodate for a longer signing line. Tickets Additional City Opera House transaction fees are applied at checkout. A $3 facility fee is charged per ticket to support the City Opera House. Additional service fees are charged for tickets purchased online. To avoid service fees, buy your ticket by phone or at the Box Office, open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday-Friday. Tickets do not include a book.
