Romeo and Juliet

The passions of first love, the emotions of teenage rebellion, and the dramatics of family conflicts all take center stage in Theatreworks USA's Romeo & Juliet. In this critically-acclaimed ninety-minute nine-actor production of the classic text with a pulsing rock incidental score, Theatreworks takes Shakespeare's language to the streets of a futuristic crumbling urban wasteland called Verona. Here, the star-crossed lovers of two warring clans secretly dare to love amid eruptions of violence and familiar hatred. Although the Capulets and Montagues suffer the loss of their children, they realize that their hatred can only lead to tragedy, and they vow a new course of harmony, understanding, and peace.

Richie Havens - Live in Concert, One Show Only

Richie's career began in the Greenwich Village music scene of the 1960s, along with other folk artists like Bob Dylan and Joan Baez. He is known for his rich, soulful voice and distinguishing guitar playing. In the words of John Lennon, Richie "plays a pretty funky guitar."

Though Richie has not written many of his own songs, he is celebrated for his distinctive and soulful interpretations of other's songs, including many songs by Bob Dylan and The Beatles.

A career highlight for Richie was his legendary performance at Woodstock in 1969. The crowd demanded encore after encore from him until he had completely run out of material. Richie was able to return to perform in 1999 at Woodstock's 30-year anniversary.

Despite his long career, Richie still looks at making music as a continuous journey. His most recent full-length album was Grace of the Sun, in 2004. He also made an appearance in the 2007 biographical film about Bob Dylan, I'm Not There and recorded a song for the soundtrack.

"Downtown Dinner and a Movie"
The King of Hearts (1966) (Drama Comedy)

King of Hearts is a marvelous movie starring the late great Alan Bates and the lovely Geneviève Bujold. The movie is full of sweetness, charm, clever comedy, and fine drama that also comments very well on the stupidity of war. Late in World War I, Private Charles Plumpick is assigned to disarm a bomb planted by the Germans in a small town in France. When Plumpick arrives, however, he is chased by Germans and finds himself holed up in an insane asylum. The inmates at the asylum dub him the “King of Hearts,” and Plumpick feels compelled to help them. Will Plumpick have time to fulfill his duties and save his new friends? The King of Hearts is an all time foreign film classic.

"Downtown Dinner and a Movie"
Adam’s Rib (1949) (Romantic Comedy)

Arguably the greatest Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn film, it is certainly the most popular of their teamings. Brightly written, it takes the premise of a wife (the sparkling Judy Holliday, in her film debut) on trial for shooting her unfaithful husband (Tom Ewell, establishing himself in the kind of role he’d reprise in The Seven-Year Itch), and turns it into a forum of the sexual values and standards of the 1940s, and a showcase for the fabulous Tracy and Hepburn, who were never better as the battling D.A. and defense attorney. In the courtroom and out, the love they share, and tweaking of each other’s egos is a sheer joy to watch.

Show starts at 7pm. Tickets – Adults $7; Seniors and children 12 and under $5. Cash bar available
